Happiness

Happiness by Steven Pinker, as usual, the books we read has really good description of the different types of connections in our own life or someone that you know is going through. Also, like any other book, we have a golden line from the author. My favorite golden line would be from pg. 336 paragraph 16, “Happiness isn’t everything. We can make choices that leave us unhappy in the short term but fulfilled over the course of a life, such a raising a child, writing a book, or fighting for a worthy cause.” When I read that sentence, I felt relieved and mostly thought processing. The reason why I felt relieved because of how I reflected back on how I would be unhappy about certain things like not doing so good on a test. I would be bummed out by it for a short time, then I just remember on what I can do to do better on the next test and I am all of a sudden better again.

The reason why I was thought processing was mostly because I know an adult who had a boy 2 months ago and I could tell he was not to thrilled for it. He was mostly upset about having a boy because he did not want the boy to grow up the way he did growing up as a kid. A couple weeks later, he was feeling better about having a son because he promised himself that he will do everything in his power to make sure that boy will not end up how he was growing to be as a kid. My mind went straight to that once I read that sentence. I chose that golden line because of accurate information towards on how a humans mentality can work with emotion.
