Reading the roots of mental illness was a mind opening reading experience because of how it tells you how the human mind can suffer from depression, anxiety, and panic attacks and how it happens. The article is great, but there are some lines that catches our attention. The line that caught my attention was the 6th paragraph on the last page, “I think, increasingly, we’ll understand behavior at many levels, and one of those will be physiological. Inel says. That may take longer to translate into new therapies and new opportunities for patients.” I felt hopeful and relieved that the doctors are working hard to try to find a solution to depression. For hopeful, that was my first feeling because some times, people forget what purpose they have in life, then they go into the state of being suicidal. But with patterns like that, scientists could possibly find a pattern and solve depression.
For relieved, that was my second feeling because of my thoughts of how depression could potentially end. After reading that 6th paragraph on the last page, I felt good after the scientist making an attempt to stop depression from happening because people need to understand that other people have thoughts, feelings, or going through something. We all go through the same thing in some way, shape, or form. But, some people act like they are the only ones who have problems in the world and do not realize that other people do too. That is why I feel relieved because I know scientists can study the behaviors of depression like any other experiment.
