In the book iGen by Jean Twenge, she talks about how mainly social media can lead up to depression and suicide. Chapter 4 talks about that specifically. Boys and girls killing themselves over their insecurity with how other people’s lives are going on social media. Little do they know, they only post the positive and rarely show the negativity. There is a quote that states that. On page 93 second paragraph cites, “iGen’ers look so happy online, making goofy faces on Snapchat and smiling in their pictures on Instagram. But dig deeper, and reality is not so comforting. iGen is on the verge of the most severe mental health crisis for young people in decades. On the surface, though, everything is fine.” After reading that, I thought how reality vs fantasy.
For reality, I know it is disappointing how we can ask for what we want and the outcome ends up terrible. Like expressing your feelings to a girl you like and she turns you down. I know that could hurt for most people, but they should take time to realize that there are plenty of fish in the sea. For fantasy, it is good to fantasize over things you have wanted to achieve. Like you won the lottery and spend some of the money to buy a mansion, cool Lamborghini, man caves, custom pool creation, etc. . We all need a short break from reality sometimes. The reason I chose that to be my golden line because both are good to have in life because they give us a chance to work even harder to pull off your goals. Even if we did not achieve them, make new ones, making goals are limitless.
