Lost connections by Johann Hari, the first 7 chapters had an interesting description of how to get people to take a pill that can cure their depression, but that was not the only interesting thing I have encountered while reading this book. Like, “More people say they feel lonely than ever before and I wondered if this might be related to our apparent rise in depression and anxiety (pg.83).” When I read that, the feelings that I had was shocked and sympathy. I felt shocked because I did not think that loneliness can lead to depression. Then again, you have no one to talk to about a crisis you are going through. So I can sort of see why loneliness can lead to depression.
The reason why I also felt sympathy for the people suffering from depression caused by loneliness was because I myself was living through that loneliness in my second and third grade year. No one talked to me when I transfer schools and was bullied a lot in those years. In fourth grade, one person came up to me and asked me if I wanted to be a part of their group. I agreed but I was quiet for the first week of my joining the group, next week came by and I felt comfortable in the group. I was going into a state of depression until I met my group of friends. I am hopeful that people suffering from depression can find someone to talk to can be happy again. The reason why I chose this golden line is because it describes the effects of how loneliness can be effective to certain people.
